Kye Fincher, an athletic 185cm halfback/midfielder, is a member of St Kilda's Next Generation Academy.

Fincher's eye-catching leap has featured on plenty of highlight reels, consistently going for big marks that defy his size as a medium defender.

Fincher's ability to punish teams off turnover by reading the ball coming into defensive 50, and then having the boldness to use his run and carry has been a hallmark of his game all throughout 2025.

Given a VFL berth for Sandringham Zebras in their last game of the VFL season, he was thrown into the midfield and given the opportunity to sink or swim – and he swam more than comfortably, amassing 24 disposals, winning plenty of the footy around the contest and showing great confidence against the bigger senior bodies proved a different element to his game.

He got sustained opportunities in the midfield at the Coates Talent League level in the back portion of the season and continued to not only show himself as a player capable of winning clearances and using his run on the outside, but also a tricky matchup inside 50 given his dynamism at ground level and ability to take a big grab.

Fincher was a state combine invitee, but that was before he showed his wares as a more than capable ball-winning midfielder.

A bid for Fincher is expected to come early in the second round. He'll have the likes of Jack Sinclair and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera to learn off, and with the latter spending more time in the midfield late in 2025, there may be an opportunity for a young player to come in and play a role next season.

All of that, of course, comes if the Saints match a bid for Fincher, who has proven himself to be a compelling package as an athletic, versatile, neat-kicking player who provides plenty of dash.
