Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has poured cold water on trade rumours linking the Queensland club to rival forwards Oscar Allen and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

The pair both face unclear futures despite their contrasting contract status, with Allen eligible to test the open market via free agency while Ugle-Hagan is under contract until the end of next year.

Ugle-Hagan's future with the Western Bulldogs has become clouded as he looks to overcome a personal situation that has seen him spend time away from the club this year, failing to feature at any level.

The former No.1 pick is now seen to be gettable as a trade asset, with a move out of Melbourne seen as a potential outcome for the young target.

Quizzed on the club's reported interest in Ugle-Hagan, Fagan quashed the suggestion that the Lions had spoken to Bulldogs' management while also answering questions on whether a move north might benefit the young forward.

"I think people speculate, to be honest, about those sorts of things," Fagan said.

"They go 'Oh Joey Daniher left, the Brisbane Lions are in the market for a tall forward'. I don't know anyone that's spoken to Jamarra's management.

"I don't know where that comes from, so it's hard for me to answer. That's a surprise.

"I don't know Jamarra, so I don't know what his needs are. Sometimes in the past we've seen players move from one state to another state, and it's been good for them. But I don't know his story."

Fagan offered a similar response when asked on the club's ties to Allen, with reports emerging earlier this year that Brisbane had held talks with the West Coast captain.

The Lions coach explained that while his attention has been placed elsewhere, he has no knowledge of his side speaking with Allen or his management.

"Again, we have had no conversations with Oscar," Fagan said.

"I'm sort of not in that mindset at the moment. My focus is on my team playing well and improving and getting better.

"I leave all that stuff to our list management team. I haven't had a conversation about Oscar."

Brisbane have a number of contract calls to make of their own, with defender Brandon Starcevich eligible for free agency in 2025.

The lockdown backman is joined by Callum Ah Chee, Darcy Fort, Ryan Lester, Lincoln McCarthy, Conor McKenna, Logan Morris, Deven Robertson and Dayne Zorko, among others, in being off-contract this year.
