Draft prospect guru Kevin Sheehan has provided an update on AFL clubs' current stance on trading selections ahead of the 2022 National Draft in late November.
Since the closure of this year's trade and free agency period, clubs are now permitted to exclusively trade draft picks up until and throughout the draft.
Sheehan, the AFL's National Talent Manager, is in and amongst draft-day preparations year-in-year-out, studying prospects and predicting their draft positions.
The seasoned expert spoke on RSN Breakfast Club on Tuesday morning to discuss the latest happenings in the AFL draft world, including whispers about clubs trading picks ahead of November 28.
Quizzed on the prospect of trade activity between clubs on draft night, Sheehan gave the impression that a lot of clubs are currently content with their draft hands.
"They've worked pretty hard to get to the positions they are, the clubs, with some trades, but now there's this sense of 'oh geez, I think I'll hold on to what I've got'," he said.
"Maybe we'll see, on the night [of the draft], someone might make a move to try and get up the order, should there be a player still there that they really want to get a hold of, so that's the intrigue of it all.
"I think it's added another dimension to [the draft] in recent years, the live trading on the night of picks."
Sheehan stated clubs are going back to the drawing board to evaluate prospects, as opposed to putting picks on the trading block.
"Right now, [the clubs are] going back over vision, I suppose the jump-outs from the trials are all over at this stage, so it's a matter of going back and looking at the vision and consolidating your thoughts," Sheehan added.
When it comes to the trading of draft picks, clubs are only permitted to exchange picks they hold either this year or next.
The 2022 National Draft will commence on Monday, 28 November, and conclude on Tuesday, 29 November.
