St Kilda hasn't officially said it, but they are in a rebuilding phase, and have been for the past two years.
The Saints have welcomed a host of young talent in recent seasons, headed by Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, and now believe established stars are the way forward.
The interest in a Carlton ruckman has been well documented, while it is widely believed that a Giants defender is bound for Moorabbin.
But who else would improve St Kilda's list going forward?
Here are five trade and free agency targets for St Kilda to consider this year.
1Tom De Koning
The first name on the list should be of no surprise.
The Blues tall is weighing up money over heart, but as Carlton tumbles down the ladder and back into mediocrity, the Saints move looks more appealing.
As a restricted free agent, St Kilda won't have to give up any draft capital for De Koning, although it is understood they could pony up nearly $1.7 million a year for seven seasons.
Nevertheless, a big fish like the ruckman could bring a 'destination club' vibe to the struggling Saints, and also help retain some of their emerging stars.
The 26-year-old has the potential to be one of the game's best ruckmen, and at his age, can grow with the likes of Wanganeen-Milera, Marcus Windhager, Mattaes Phillipou, Darcy Wilson and Mitch Owens.
But it must be noted, that if De Koning arrives at Moorabbin in the off-season, what will that do to Rowan Marshall?
