GWS youngster Conor Stone has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 season, with the club revealing that scans confirmed an incomplete fracture in his navicular.
Stone was emerging as a permanent fixture in Adam Kingsley's side across half back following multiple departures in the off-season.
The 23-year-old played the first seven matches of the campaign but was sent back to the VFL to fine-tune his skillset and form.
However, Stone, who extended his time at the Giants late last year until the end of 2026, will now miss the rest of the season.
Another blow to GWS is Lachie Whitfield entering concussion protocols following a heavy hit from Gold Coast's Ben King.
Fortunately, the Giants have the week off (mid-season bye) and will travel to Perth to face West Coast on Friday, July 4.
Whitfield could be available for selection, pending that he exits the concussion protocols, but could be given another week off to freshen up.
Meanwhile, a quartet of Giants are tests to play football across both the senior and reserves levels next week.
Ruckman Kieren Briggs (ankle) could look to make his long-awaited return against the Eagles, as could Stephen Coniglio (glute).
The Giants VFL side also has the bye this coming weekend, meaning the important duo won't be able to get a run-in before a decision is made in Round 17.
The same goes for youngsters Phoenix Gotharc (adductor) and Jack Ough (shoulder), who have both recovered from their respective injuries.
