The location of the incoming Tasmanian AFL team's high-performance centre has been confirmed, with a $70 million headquarters to be positioned in Rosny.
The Clarence-located suburb will be the home base of the AFL's 19th club, where it will be the home of AFL, AFLW, VFL, VFLW and junior pathways and academies emerging in the island state
Tasmanian premier Jeremy Rockliff labelled the announcement as "another huge step" in the state's plans toward joining the AFL.
"The Tasmanian AFL Club's High Performance Centre will be based at Rosny," the premier Tweeted.ย
"We'll be getting the ball rolling on the $70M Centre immediately, so we can deliver our AFL and AFLW teams, as well as the local community a world-class facility.
"Today, we're another huge step closer to coming together and watching our own team run out, in our colours, on the national stage."
According toย The Mercury,ย the AFL will chip in $10 million for the development of the training base, which will include an MCG-sized oval and an additional oval across the road, with an indoor field also part of the state-of-the-art base.
The state government will be forking up the other $60 million to build the facility, which will be positioned near Tasmania's projected new stadium at Macquarie Point as well as the city and airport.
โThe High Performance Centre would be more than just a place for players to prepare,โ Tasmanian Minister for Stadia and Events Nic Street said, perย The Mercury.ย
โIt will represent a symbol of the club's ambitions and values.
โWe are confident players and staff will embrace this location. It is close to the city and the airport, has great amenities nearby and will make the team highly visible.โ
The completion of the training base is expected by 2026, two years prior to Tasmania's anticipated induction into the AFL. Tasmania are expected to have teams competing in the VFL and VFLW within the next two years also.
