The AFL's silly season has come and gone in a flash, with more player movement than we have ever seen before. Let's recap the trade period and see just how well your club did.
In: Shane McAdam, Tyson Stengle, pick 13, 2019 fifth-round pick
Out: Mitch McGovern, picks 40, 68, 2019 third-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Pick 40 to Sydney, Mitch McGovern to Carlton in exchange for pick 13, Shane McAdam and 2019 fifth-round pick
Grade: B+
The Crows lost McGovern, who did not want to be there and received a lot of value for the forward. Pick 13, along with their original pick of eight in the draft could see them strike a deal to move up and get their hands on the prized SA talent this year's class has to offer.
In: Marcus Adams, Lincoln McCarthy, Lachie Neale, picks 18, 30, 35, 56, 78, 2019 first-round pick, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 third-round pick
Out: Dayne Beams, Sam Mayes, picks 5, 24, 43, 62, 80, 2019 first-round pick
Best deal: Pick 6, 19 and third-round selection to Fremantle in exchange for Lachie Neale and pick 30
Grade: A
The Lions got their man in Dockers star Lachie Neale and were mere minutes away from boasting potentially the best midfield in the entire competition, before allowing Dayne Beams to head back to Collingwood in the dying minutes of the trade period. Experienced players such as Lincoln McCarthy and Marcus Adams will help the depth of the team as they look to surge up the ladder.
In: Mitch McGovern, Alex Fasolo, Will Setterfield, Nic Newman, pick 71, 2019 third-round pick
Out: Nathan Kreuger, Shane McAdam, picks 26, 28, 43, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick, 2019 fifth-round pick
Best deal: 2019 second-round pick and pick 43 to GWS in exchange for Will Setterfield
Grade: B-
The Blues kept their own talent but lost plenty of depth at the draft, with no pick until 69 after their number one selection. The depleted forward stocks of the Blues however get a big boost in McGovern and the experienced Alex Fasolo.
In: Picks 41, 44, 57, Dayne Beams, Jordan Roughead
Out: Alex Fasolo, picks 18, 56, 75, 2019 first-round pick
Best deal: Pick 75 to the Western Bulldogs in exchange for Jordan Roughead
Grade: A-
The addition of Beams does make the Pies the best midfield in the competition and Jordan Roughead helps the depth of talls that badly hurt them in their two finals losses to the Eagles. A negative would be losing this year's and next year's first-round draft picks for Beams.
In: Dylan Shiel, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Out: Travis Colyer, pick 9, 2019 first-round pick
Best deal: Pick 9 and a future first round selection to GWS in exchange for Dylan Shiel
Grade: B+
The Bombers were not as active in the trade period as recent times but landed the big fish of the period in Dylan Shiel, aiding their sometimes criticised midfield depth. Losing two first-round picks however is a big gamble, one Bomber fans will hope takes them back into premiership contention soon.
In: Travis Colyer, Reece Conca, Jesse Hogan, Rory Lobb, picks 14, 31, 43, 65
Out: Lachie Neale, pick 6, 2019 third-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Pick 6 and 23 in exchange for Jesse Hogan and pick 65
Grade: A
Fremantle finally has a forward line! The loss of Lachie Neale was offset by finally landing Jesse Hogan, with Rory Lobb coming in to help him, giving Fremantle some real presence up forward for the first time in what feels like forever.
In: Luke Dahlhaus, Nathan Kreuger, Gary Rohan, picks 59, 70
Out: Lincoln McCarthy, George Horlin-Smith, Jackson Thurlow, picks 54, 57
Best deal: Pick 61 to Sydney in exchange for Gary Rohan
Grade: C+
The Cats were not big movers at the table this year but added some depth to a thin midfield rotation with the acquisition of Luke Dahlhaus and gave up virtually nothing for a player with real potential in Gary Rohan. Rohan gives the Cats some much needed speed and hopefully pressure in the forward line.
In: Corey Ellis, Anthony Miles, George Horlin-Smith, Jack Hombsch, picks 3, 6, 24, 79, 2019 first-round pick, 2019 third-round pick, 2019 third-round pick
Out: Tom Lynch, Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij, Aaron Hall, Jack Scrimshaw, picks 19, 32, 41, 44, 59, 68, 77, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 third-round pick, 2019 third-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: 2019 third-round selection to Richmond in exchange for Corey Ellis, Anthony Miles and a 2019 third-round draft selection
Grade: D+
It's starting to get quite ugly at the Suns, losing three of their best 10 players, including both their captains as this team somehow gets younger. They have some depth in their midfield stocks at least with three solid additions.
In: Picks 9, 11, 19, 2019 first-round pick, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Out: Rory Lobb, Tom Scully, Will Setterfield, Dylan Shiel, picks 14, 47, 71, 2019 second-round pick
Best deal: Rory Lobb, picks 14, 43 and 47 to Fremantle in exchange for picks 11 and 19
Grade: C-
The Giants had their backs against the wall, needing to shave $1.5 million off their salary cap and the vultures circled. GWS lost three players from their starting 22 and possibly two of their best five players. The Scully loss for next to nothing should hurt for years to come.
In: Jack Scrimshaw, Tom Scully, Chad Wingard, 2019 third-round pick
Out: Ryan Burton, Taylor Duryea, picks 15, 35, 2019 third-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Future fourth-round draft pick to GWS in exchange for Tom Scully
Grade: A
The Hawks got an absolute steal to secure Tom Scully, a powerful running midfielder and also secured a superstar in Chad Wingard as Alastair Clarkson worked his magic again. Losing Ryan Burton may hurt in the long run but for a team trying to win right now it was a necessary evil to get Wingard on board.
In: Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij, Braydon Preuss, picks 23, 28, 62
Out: Dean Kent, Dom Tyson, Jesse Hogan, picks 6, 36, 46, 65
Best deal: Pick 6 to the Gold Coast in exchange for Steven May and Kade Kolodjashnij
Grade: A
The loss of Jesse Hogan is definitely a sore one, however the Demons won two finals without the spearhead and added a key defender to take on the power forwards that troubled them in Perth in this year's preliminary final. Losing Kent and Tyson hurts their midfield stock and the addition of Braydon Preuss is puzzling considering the ruck position at the Dees appears only for one man.
In: Aaron Hall, Jasper Pittard, Jared Polec, Dom Tyson, picks 47, 48, 49, 55
Out: Ryan Clarke, Braydon Preuss, picks 11, 31, 62, 68, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Pick 11 and a future fourth-round selection to Port Adelaide in exchange for Jared Polec, Jasper Pittard and pick 48.
Grade: B
The Roos missed out on their big target of Gaff but Jared Polec coming to the club helps soften that blow and brings a line-breaker to their hard nosed midfield. Adding Dom Tyson and Aaron Hall will also do wonders for the Kangaroos in 2019.
In: Ryan Burton, Scott Lycett, Sam Mayes, picks 5, 15, 2019 fourth-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Out: Jack Hombsch, Jasper Pittard, Jared Polec, Chad Wingard, picks 23, 30, 48, 49, 2019 third-round pick
Best deal: Pick 6, 35 and a future third round-draft pick to Brisbane in exchange for Sam Mayes and pick 5
Grade: C-
The Power lost significant quality for a team that is hoping to be contending for a premiership next season with Wingard and Polec leaving for Victoria. The Power did make some strides with picks, now having 5, 10 and 15 to work with, possibly to move up in a deal with the Suns.
In: Tom Lynch, picks 64, 68, 2019 third-round pick
Out: Reece Conca, Corey Ellis, Sam Lloyd, Anthony Miles, Tyson Stengle, 2019 third-round pick
Best deal: Tom Lynch for nothing
Grade: A
The 2017 premiers had little to do this off-season, getting the biggest free agent of the year in footy's worst-kept secret in early October. Aside from Lynch, the Tigers moved some fringe players out for draft picks in a quiet trade period.
In: Dan Hannebery, Dean Kent, picks 36, 46, 2019 fourth-round pick
Out: Tom Hickey, picks 61, 65, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Pick 39 and a future second-round selection to Sydney in exchange for Dan Hannebery and pick 28
Grade: C
The Saints were another quiet worker in the trade period, winning the race for Dan Hannebery to help their midfield. However, it still feels like the same problems for St. Kilda, no stars to help the club, unless Hannebery gets his body right for the first time in years, it may be a gamble that was not worth taking.
In: Ryan Clarke, Jackson Thurlow, picks 26, 39, 40, 2019 second-round pick, 2019 fourth-round pick
Out: Dan Hannebery, Gary Rohan, Nic Newman, picks 13, 70
Best deal: Pick 61 to North Melbourne in exchange for Ryan Clarke
Grade: C
The Swans kept quiet throughout the trade period as it moved out big money to have a crack at the free agents of 2019, with an estimated $1 million in cap cleared by trading Hannebery and Rohan.
In: Tom Hickey, picks 20, 61, 2019 fourth-round pick
Out: Scott Lycett, pick 39, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Pick 39 and a future foruth-round pick to St. Kilda in exchange for Tom Hickey and pick 61
Grade: B
Keeping Andrew Gaff was the big win for the premiers in the period after it appeared he was North Melbourne bound. Tom Hickey will step in for Scott Lycett until Nic Naitanui returns from injury to keep the tandem ruck combination going with Nathan Vardy.
In: Taylor Duryea, Sam Lloyd, picks 27, 32, 75, 2019 third-round pick
Out: Marcus Adams, Luke Dahlhaus, Jordan Roughead, pick 64, 2019 fourth-round pick
Best deal: Pick 64 to Richmond in exchange for Sam Lloyd
Grade: C-
The Bulldogs lost some key players in Adams and Dahlhaus, while the writing had been on the wall for a Roughead departure all season. Sam Lloyd will be a good midfield contributor, however expect the Dogs to stay around the same mark next season.
