Three-time Geelong premiership player James Kelly has joined Essendon as a top-up for the 2016 season.

Kelly becomes the Bombers' second top-up player, after the club announced the signing of former Fremantle tagger Ryan Crowley on Tuesday.

Kelly played 273 games with Geelong across 14 seasons, winning the 2007, 2009 and 2011 premierships with the Cats and being named in the 2011 All Australian side.
