Port Adelaide premiership coach Mark Williams has not ruled out a return to coaching, and has said he would consider coaching the Magpies if Nathan Buckley was to leave at the end of the season.

Buckley is out of contract at the end of his sixth year with Collingwood, and has a 52.3% winning record from his 133 games coached.

Since leading the Pies to back-to-back finals series' in his first two years at the club, Collingwood haven't played in September since 2013, and won't play finals once again this season.

Should Collingwood come calling, Williams believes he would have no choice but to entertain the offer.

“You never say never,” he told SEN Afternoons when asked about coaching the Pies.

“I have a great passion for football and coaching. If an opportunity like that came along, you would certainly look at it because it is one of the dream jobs of the AFL.”

A decision is likely to be made on Buckley's future after Collingwood's season ends.

Williams has spent the best part of the past 20 years as a coach in the AFL ranks, with his most recent role as an assistant coach at Richmond ending just last season.

He was also an assistant at the Giants from 2011-2012, after 12 seasons with Port Adelaide as senior coach.

Williams led the Power to the 2004 premiership and the 2007 grand final, and had a 55.5% winning record over his career as Port Adelaide's coach.
