Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has boldly declared Geelong 'aren't that good' just a week after his side lost to them by 61 points, stating the one-sided affair was moreso a reflection of his side's poor output.
The Hawks responded in a big way on Thursday night against the reigning premiers Richmond, dominating all over the field and on the scoreboard to win by 32 points.
Clarkson was pleased with his teams response against the Tigers after such a disappointing effort the week before.
“It was a tough week because we were so disappointed with our performance. We have a proud group and a proud club,” Clarkson told reporters post-game.
“We lowered our colours to a good side last week and I hope I’m not discrediting Geelong by saying it but they’re not that good. We were just terribly poor.
“We expected a response and we got one. But the challenge for us now is to back up that response with another really strong performance next week.”
Hawthorn will next face off against the 2-0 North Melbourne next Sunday night at Marvel Stadium.
