Former Western Bulldogs assistant and Geelong skipper Steven King has signed with the Gold Coast as a senior assistant coach.

King has spent the last 10 years at the Bulldogs looking after the midfield and ruck lines and will now make the move North to work under Stuart Dew.

New General Manager of Football Performance Wayne Campbell said that King was the right fit for the Suns as they look to turn young talent into team success.

“We’ve said publicly that we want to continue to add to our football department to ensure we can provide our players and staff with the best possible chance for success and Steven definitely does that,” Campbell said.

“He has an extensive coaching background and we believe he can bring new elements to our young and exciting midfield group to help them reach new heights in 2022 and beyond.”

Speaking via a statement on the Bulldogs website, King said he was excited for a new challenge after a decade at the Whitten Oval.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work with an amazing organisation like the Western Bulldogs,” King said.

“The experience of collaborating with a motivated group of players and staff, in such a supportive and close-knit environment, has been extremely rewarding.

“In particular I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with an extremely talented, hard-working and driven midfield group at the Dogs.

“I want to thank everyone at the Bulldogs for their support, guidance and friendship over the last decade, and I wish the Club every success for the future as I embark on a new coaching challenge.”
