Ross Lyon has met with St Kilda officials on Monday, with the former senior coach confirming the details to 7 News' Tom Browne.

Lyon has been speculated as a candidate to take the top job at the Saints after the shock sacking of Brett Ratten last week, tipped to rejoin the club he departed in 2011.

The meeting, which was held at club president Andrew Bassat's house, lasted for more than four hours.

Lyon coached the club from 2007-2011, at the helm for St Kilda's grand final appearances in 2009 and 2010. Following his appointment at Fremantle, Lyon remained in purple until 2019.

The Saints stated after the sacking of Ratten that they wanted to appoint a new coach quickly, with reports suggesting they could announce their replacement by the end of the week.

  1. This shows that the STK head office has learned nothing and it content to remain in the bottom half of the ladder. They don’t remember how Lyon walked out on them (not even telling his agents). They don’t remember that his last few seasons at Fremantle were a disaster and that team sank to the bottom of the ladder. Even considering Lyon shows that the club has no clue as to how to improve the team and get it back into finals regularly. It’s time for STK supporters (of which I count myself) to just walk away from the team. This is an insult to the players and supporters.
