Norm Smith Medalist Jason Johannisen's drawn out contract negotiations with the Western Bulldogs are well known, since reports emerged in March the 24-year-old had put talks on hold with the club.

Johannisen is reportedly requesting more than the Bulldogs are currently offering, which is said to be around $500,000 per season.

Rival clubs have sat up and taken notice, particularly, according to Fox Footy, the West Coast Eagles.

Fox Footy reports the Eagles have confirmed their interested in Johannisen, with the running defender's management also confirming the approach from the West Australian club.

Johannisen spent most of his childhood in WA, after he moved there from South Africa where he born, when he was eight years old.

The speedster's outside run and electrifying pace off half-back is an asset the Eagles are desperate for. But West Coast will face stiff competition from several other sides, particularly given he is likely to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his future.

Essendon is also reportedly interested in the 2016 premiership player.

Johannisen has played 74 games for the Dogs since being recruited with pick No.39 in the 2011 Rookie Draft.
