Former Melbourne and Fremantle midfielder Colin Sylvia has been sentenced to 100 hours of community work after pleading guilty to multiple offences.

Silvia fronted court on Monday for stalking his ex-girlfriend, re-offending while on bail, and stealing credit cards details from a customer at Renault in Richmond, before using them to visit a brothel, buy pornography and place over $4,000 on sports betting.

Sylvia's defence lawyer asked the magistrate to consider community based punishments rather than jail time, given the fact the former Demon had repaid his victim.

The 32-year-old played 163 AFL games over 11 seasons, with 157 of those coming for Melbourne, before he moved to Fremantle for the 2014 season.
