Geelong has been dealt a huge blow in its already monumental task of defeating the Swans in the semi-final on Friday night, with midfielder Cam Guthrie ruled out of the match due to a calf strain.

Guthrie sat out the second half of the Cats' 51-point loss to Richmond last Friday night, with the club now revealing he has suffered a low grade strain.

He will be assessed next week and could be a chance to return against Adelaide should the side win and progress to the preliminary final.

Meanwhile, Jake Kolodjashnij, who sat out the final term with a calf injury, has been cleared to play against the Swans at the MCG this Friday night after training with the main group on Monday.
