St Kilda great Nick Dal Santo has lifted the lid on a hilarious high school legend about former Collingwood and Fremantle star Chris Tarrant.

Tarrant graduated from Bendigo Senior Secondary in 1997 back when the draft was held before Year 12 exams.

Having already been recruited to the Magpies with pick 8 the day before his English exam, it's clear where Tarrant's priorities laid.

โ€œMy draft was the first year that the exam was moved after the draft,โ€ Dal Santo said onย Fox Footy Live.

โ€œThereโ€™s a famous story - I went to Bendigo Senior, just a public school in Bendigo, a fantastic school ... Chris Tarrant went there quite a few years before I did.

โ€œIt became a bit of a legendary story that he got drafted on the Sunday by Collingwood, and he had his English exam on the Monday morning.

โ€œNow the story goes, and I believe it because it was gospel around the schoolyard, that he waited his 15 minutes of reading time - youโ€™re not allowed to pick up your pen, youโ€™ve got to read and get ready to write your two hours or three hours of your essay.

โ€œHe read it for 15 minutes, wrote at the top โ€˜GO PIESโ€™, handed it in and walked out.

โ€œSo I think thatโ€™s the case study of why the draft has been moved after the exams.โ€
