Geelong tall Esava Ratugolea is the latest Port Adelaide target to have met with the Alberton club as he weighs up his future beyond 2022.

Ratugolea, who is contracted for next season, has found opportunities hard to come by at senior level in recent seasons, having been limited to just the four AFL games this year.

After playing 20 games in 2019 as Geelong's emerging ruck-forward option, the 24-year-old has since struggled to cement his spot under senior coach Chris Scott.

Ratugolea had been linked with a move to GWS at the end of 2020, however has since remained at Kardinia Park to fight for his spot.

But with Scott's side often cemented on their way to the premiership this season, it has left Ratugolea to consider his future.

According to 7 News, the Fijian Cat has met with Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley as part of his tour of the club's base in Alberton.

Ratugolea isn't the first name to have stepped into the South Australian club's headquarters this off-season, with Tiger Jack Graham, Bomber Aaron Francis and fellow Cat Francis Evans all said to have met with the Power.

Evans was among five Geelong players delisted by the club earlier this week, with the small forward in line for a career lifeline through delisted free agency next month.

Francis is understood to be of interest to both Port Adelaide and Sydney as he contemplates his next decision, while Graham is reported to have turned down the Power's advances.

Port Adelaide are set to land premiership forward Junior Rioli from West Coast, while they look to also add to their key defensive stocks for 2023.

"I think it's reasonable to suggest that every team would want as tall a defender to take on the big guys," Power football boss Chris Davies told AFL Trade Radio earlier this week.

"We have struggled over time (without a tall defender) so I think that ultimately down the track it's something we need to look at."

Ratugolea has turned to defence this season, with his sole appearance after Round 3 coming against West Coast at the end of the home away season where he played four quarters in the Cats' backline.

The 197cm-tall key-position utility has shown promise as a defensive option in the VFL in 2022, while being capable to pinch-hit in the ruck and feature as a forward.
