Former Essendon star Dean Rioli has slammed ex-teammate Justin Murphy after the 185-gamer was sentenced to six months in prison for attacking an ex-girlfriend.

Murphy pleaded guilty to 28 charges on Thursday for what the magistrate named a "campaign of terror" against his ex-partner Jill Scott.

Seven News reported the ex-Richmond, Carlton, Geelong and Essendon player stalked, robbed and threatened to kill Scott, who is still shaken up after the multiple incidents.

The Court was told Muprhy attacked Scott with a blowtorch in November last year, resulting in Scott losing her middle finger after the burns.

“I have flashes for life, dreams for life. I wake up screaming,” she told Seven News.

“Evil. That’s pretty much the word for it."

Rioli took to Twitter to blast Murphy for his actions, saying he should have been handed a longer sentence.

The cousin of Hawthorn's Cyril Rioli and Richmond's Daniel Rioli also called Murphy a coward.
