Greater Western Sydney forward Devon Smith is set to play his football elsewhere in 2018, after officially requesting trade from the Giants last week.

However, just where he will be playing still remains a mystery.

Geelong was rumoured to be the front runner earlier in the season, however, now appear out of the race, with the Cats turning their attention to Jake Stringer and Gary Ablett.

Smith's manager, Ned Guy, told AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday morning there are four clubs, Essendon, St Kilda, Collingwood and Carlton, currently in the running for the 24-year-old's signature,

“We are hoping (to have a decision) by the end of this week if not early next week so we can move pretty quickly once we know which direction he wants to take,” Guy said.

“A big one for Devon is the player management and how they manage the players back through rehab. He was in a race against time to get back for the prelim final and just missed out.”

Smith, one of the club's inaugural players, has kicked 100 goals in 109 games for the Giants, but did not feature in the side's finals campaign this year, playing 16 matches for the season.
