Collingwood face a tight salary cap situation and have star duo Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore coming out of contract at season's end.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast on Tuesday morning, former AFL greats Tim Watson and Garry Lyon debated which of the pair they would prefer.

Watson predicted that the early rounds of the season could be a deciding factor in the direction the Magpies take.

“If (Moore) has a great first six games, he’s going to be hotly pursued I think by other clubs out there. If Jordan de Goey has a brilliant start to the year, he’s going to be big time business as well." he said.

“If you could only sign one of those two players, they’re both pricing themselves out of the picture for Collingwood to retain them both.”

Lyon spoke for his preference for the forward, stating “I’d go for De Goey”.

“At this stage of the career, he has proven himself to be a match-winner more so than Darcy.”

Moore was the choice for Watson, however.

“I would go Darcy Moore. I’m a little bit concerned about his body, but I’m just as concerned about De Goey’s body and his preparation and that type of thing,” he said.

Both Moore and De Goey have been linked to moves away from Collingwood in the past with Moore being connected to Sydney, the Western Bulldogs and most recently Richmond. De Goey has previously turned down a multi-million dollar move to North Melbourne.
