LAUNCESTON, AUSTRALIA - JULY 08: Confusion sets in as the final siren sounds and draw is declared before Hawthorn could rush a point to win the game during the round 16 AFL match between the Hawthorn Hawks and the Greater Western Sydney Giants at University of Tasmania Stadium on July 8, 2017 in Launceston, Australia. Every year when there is a draw, the same debate rages on.

Should we abolish draws in AFL, or do they have a place in the game?

The idea of extra-time is often discussed by fans and media personalities, but former Fremantle coach Chris Connolly has a unique way of deciding drawn games.

Connolly has suggested drawn games should be decided by awarding the win to the team that has kicked the most goals.

For example, for the recent draw between Hawthorn and GWS in Round 16, the Giants finished on 14.13 (97), while the Hawks finished on 15.7 (97). Under Connolly's proposal, Hawthorn would be awarded the win.

“I don’t like the draws,” Connolly said on SEN on Wednesday afternoon.

“I think the team that kicks the most goals should win the game.

"If we become a draw and I kick the most goals, I should win the game."

However, should both team be equal on goals and behinds, then Connolly admits extra-time would be necessary and the team that kicks the first goal should be awarded the win.

"If we have the same goals, whoever kicks the first goal gets the win.”

Do you think Connolly's idea could work?
