Geelong and senior coach Chris Scott remain on course for an extended partnership past the 2022 season, with the Cats premiership coach remaining in discussions with the club in regards to a new contract.

Scott, who has been in the Kardinia Park hot seat since 2011, was reported to be nearing a new two-year extension late last year.

The 45-year-old is unsigned past this year, with external pressure building on the two-time premiership Lion given the Cats' inability to land premiership success since Scott's maiden season at the Cattery.

Despite any delays on confirmation of a new deal, newly appointed Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking told SEN that the two parties are looking to finalise the last details on Scott's next contract.

“There’s an agreement in place between Chris and our club,” Hocking said.

“I’m on record in saying that prior to Christmas, people want to potentially see a signature but these things takes a bit longer. There’s nothing untoward, we’re just working on a couple of final things.

“He’s committed here and committed to Geelong, we have clearly made change around Chris (in the off-season).

“Change hasn’t just happened in the AFL program but with the women’s program as well.”

Scott has amassed a record of 179-2-80 in his time as senior coach of Geelong, having only missed a top-eight finish in 2015.

The Cats will enter Scott's 12th season as coach favoured to contend for a premiership once again, however their list demographic suggests the clock is ticking on their current squad's chances of adding another flag.
