Carlton legend Greg โ€˜Dieselโ€™ Williams has boldly declared that the club will win more games than they lose in 2020.

That would mean that if the season is cut back to 17 rounds as expected, the 0-1 Blues would need to win nine of their remaining 16 games.

The dual Brownlow medallist has spent the last few years as the Blues specialist midfield coach to help develop their youngsters. He was let go by the club during the shutdown due to the financial squeeze on football departments.

Speaking on SENโ€™s Dwayneโ€™s World, Williams is confident that Carlton's emerging list is ready to turn the club's fortunes around.

โ€œI think theyโ€™ve improved a lot. I really do,โ€ Williams said.

โ€œI know thereโ€™s a lot of hype at the moment about Carlton and Richmond beat them, but I think theyโ€™ll win more games than theyโ€™ll lose this year.

โ€œI think theyโ€™ll take a pretty big step and Iโ€™m confident that in another pre-season or two theyโ€™ll be a pretty powerful side.โ€

The Blues ended last season with a 7-15 record to finish 16th.

Brendan Bolton was sacked as coach halfway through the season for David Teague, who led the team to a 6-5 record.
