A decision on the location for the AFL's inaugural 'Magic Round' is said to have been made, with Adelaide reportedly winning the race for the hosting rights.
A Magic Round will see all nine matches for a particular round of next season held in the one state, creating a festival of footy across 4-5 days for fans from across the country to attend.
The AFL have been weighing up the logistics of the round, which is tipped to replace a block of pre-season fixtures and add to the home and away season - creating a 23-game campaign for all 18 clubs.
South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia have all been in contention for the hosting rights, however the former is said to have been given the nod for the first-ever AFL Magic Round.
The NRL hosts its own Magic Round in Brisbane each year, however the AFL could look to share the spoils between multiple states across the coming years.
According to reports from News Corp,ย Adelaide have edged out Sydney for the honours, with Magic Round to take place in April next year, potentially across the Easter weekend.
The SA government is set to heavily back the concept to secure a spike in tourism from across the nation, with as many as six matches to be held at Adelaide Oval.
Other venues for the AFL to consider for the round include Elizabeth Oval, Norwood Oval, Prospect Oval, Thebarton Oval and Glenelg Oval.
The AFL is yet to confirm a decision on the location, venues, dates and finer details for Magic Round.
The 2023 AFL fixture is likely to be confirmed next month, with the league to reveal the opening 15 rounds of the draw in a move that will see the rolling fixture model scrapped.
Rounds 16 onwards will be revealed midway through next season.
