It was revealed yesterday that Western Bulldog pair Tom Boyd and Zaine Cordy have been suspended by the club after they were involved in a drunken altercation on a night out.

The club did not disclose the full details of the incident, however, Seven News Melbourne has reported that Boyd lashed out at Cordy after being teased about his lack of game time and failure to have an impact at his new club since crossing from the Giants, despite his multi-million dollar contract.

“It’s believed teammates had been mocking Boyd for his poor performance and inflated salary,” Seven News journalist Michael Scanlan said.

“The pressure built up, and he snapped.”

Cordy was reportedly taken to hospital and required three stitches to his face.

The club imposed the following sanctions on the pair:

- It has required Tom and Zaine to apologise and explain their conduct to their teammates and colleagues

- It has required Tom to undergo appropriate counselling

- It has suspended Tom and Zaine from AFL selection until the Club deems it appropriate for both to return

- It has imposed the maximum available fine of $5000 in respect of the relevant unacceptable aspects of Tom’s behaviour
