Following on from the announcement of the 40-man 22under22 squad on Tuesday, we've picked our side.

The Lions boast a team-high four players, with Alex Witherden and Harris Andrews holding down spots in the backline, Hugh McCluggage lined up on the wing and Eric Hipwood at centre-half forward. We've named Andrews as skipper of the side.

Three Blues got the nod in Jacob Weitering, Sam Walsh and Harry McKay. Walsh's biggest Rising Star challengers Sydney Stack and Connor Rozee were also included.

You can't fault the midfield, with Tm English in the ruck and Clayton Oliver, Josh Dunkley and Tim Taranto on the ball. Oliver is our vice-captain.

We've named an elite spine of Weitering, Andrews and Hipwood with Aaron Naughton at full-forward.

The biggest snubs in each position were Bayley Fritsch, Andrew McGrath and Gryan Miers. McGrath was particularly unlucky, who only had defender eligibility.

The bench positions had to include a defender, two midfielders and a forward.
