Collingwood youngster Josh Smith was forced to make a mad dash to Etihad Stadium on Friday night to ensure he got to the game against the Kangaroos on time.

Smith, who was playing his first game at Etihad, was in the car with his girlfriend, when he realised he would get the ground quicker if he got out of the car and ran.

The 22-year-old from Queensland admitted to the club's website that he was very stressed that he would not reach the ground by the two hours before the game that is required.

"I just jumped out and quickly jogged the rest of the way to get here so I could get here on time," Smith said.

"[I'm] not sure it was ideal preparation but it is what it was."

Smith picked up 12 disposals in the opening term, but only recorded a further six for the game, finish on 18 touches.

Perhaps next time if he allows more time to get the to game, he will continue his blistering first term for the remainder of the match.
