Melbourne midfielder Jay Kennedy-Harris has agreed to a one-year contract extension that will see him remain at the Demons until at least the end of the 2018 season.

Fremantle have also secured one of their young talents, with exciting midfielder Connor Blakely signing a two-year extension that will keep him at the Dockers until at least the end of 2019.

Kennedy-Harris has played just three senior games in 2017, but has been dominating at VFL level in recent weeks and is reportedly close to a recall.

The 22-year-old was selected with the 40th pick in the 2013 National Draft, and has played 25 career games for Melbourne.

“After an injury-interrupted year in 2016, we’ve been really pleased with Jay’s development this year,” General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

“He’s had continuity in games and although he’s played mostly in the VFL, his development at Casey, particularly in the last three or four weeks has been very impressive.

“We look forward to that developing further.”

Blakely has become an important member of Fremantle's side in 2017, and has played all 13 games for the Dockers this season.

The 21-year-old is averaging 23.9 disposals and 4.2 tackles a game this season, and told the club's website his decision to sign on was a very easy one.

“I think it was a no-brainer decision,” Blakely told fremantlefc.com.au.

“I’m from WA and all my friends and family are here. It’s a really good lifestyle and I love the club.

“I’ve formed some great friendship with the boys at the club so it was a decision that wasn’t hard at all, so I’m really happy.”
