Essendon legend Tim Watson says the AFL should implement extra time for all home and away matches as well as during the grand final.

The AFL yesterday announced its decision to scrap the controversial drawn grand final, in favour of two five minute periods of extra time.

If scores are still tied, then the team that gets the next score wins that match.

"We're not changing the home and away, why not ? Just about every code around the world play extra time to try and get a result, and if you don't achieve a result after extra time then it's a draw," Watson said on SEN on Wednesday morning.

"I don't know why we can't just turn around and play five minutes extra time after a home and away game.

Watson also said the new golden point rule needs a re-think.

"I think what we need to do is we have two extra five minute each way, after that if we don't get a result then we all know the next score wins but it has to be a goal." he said.

"I don't like the premium game of our season being decided by some ugly little ball that goes through the hands of out stretched players and goes over the line and a team is declared the premiers because of that. I think you should have to kick a goal."

Do you think we should stamp out draws in home and away matches as well?
