Essendon veteran Adam Cooney has been handed a one match suspension for his high hit on GWS midfielder Stephen Coniglio.

Cooney will miss this week’s clash with Adelaide after the incident was deemed to be careless, high contact and medium impact.

The case was referred straight to the tribunal after Cooney was reported late in the match on Sunday afternoon.

AFL 360’s Gerard Whateley tweeted his suprise at the lenient sanction, given the medical report on Coniglio, which stated that the youngster was concussed and could not train yesterday.
