The VFL season is set to be indefinitely suspended amid the coronavirus crisis.

AFL Victoria is expected to make an official announcement on Monday regarding their decision to bring the league to a halt for the foreseeable future.

Both Richmond and the Western Bulldogs had already pulled their VFL programs from the league in hope of limiting exposure to their AFL players.

The result of having AFL listed players pulled from their VFL affiliates means clubs may struggle to fill sides each week.

Standalone clubs such as Port Melbourne, Williamstown, Frankston, Coburg and Werribee are all likely to be majorly affected financially with the suspension taking place.

The VFL season was initially set to get underway on April 3.
