Sydney coach John Longmire has announced on Monday that superstar forward Lance Franklin will not play again this season as he continues his battle with mental illness.

“Lance won’t be playing for the rest of the season. We’re mindful of his mental health issue and it’s something that needs to be addressed,” Longmire said.

“That’s his main priority, to get that right, so footy is not on the agenda for Lance for the rest of the season.”

Sam Reid is also out for the remainder of the season, after the 23-year-old suffered a hamstring injury against Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.
