5. Sydney (14.7 91) def Hawthorn (11.15 81) - 2012 Grand Final

We kick off our top five list with one of the best grand final battles of the modern day. In front of 99,683 fans, Sydney came back from the brink to win by 10 points over the Hawks. The Swans' second premiership of the AFL-era came as an upset due to the form-line coming into the game.

In their previous 15 appearances at the MCG, the Swans had won just one game and were coming up against a Hawthorn side that had won 17 of the past 19 matches. The Hawks also had to wood over the Swans, winning three of their last five match-ups, including a seven-point win at the SCG in round 22.

Despite all the signs pointing to a Hawthorn victory, the minor premiers were foiled by Sydney and their intense defensive pressure, thanks to a famous late goal from Nick Malceski.
