Premiership coach Mark Thompson says Carlton should consider Brett Ratten for the vacant coaching position.

Thompson said on 3AW last night that Ratten’s previous experience in the top job, plus Hawthorn’s ability to develop top senior coaches over recent years work in his favour.

“The people who have left Hawthorn and gone on to coach, and there’s been a few of them in Hardwick and Simpson, who have both done pretty good jobs at their respective clubs,” Thompson said.

“They’d be silly not to look at him as someone from a good club, the best club in the AFL at the moment.”

The former Essendon champion said that Carlton “should eat humble pie,” when it came to interviewing Ratten, who they sacked at the end of 2012 to pursue Mick Malthouse.
