Brad Crouch's alleged drug bust yesterday will cost him "a collective hundreds of thousands of dollars" in free agency, according to AFL journalist Damian Barrett.

Crouch and teammate Tyson Stengle were reportedly found by police in the early hours of Monday morning with the possession of a prohibited substance.

Speaking on Triple M's Rush Hour, Barrett believes Crouch will lose a significant amount of money on his impending contract.

"It's caused a drama for him from a financial perspective moving forward. We know that he was going to exercise his rights as a free agent," Barrett said.

"There's no doubt that he's knocked off a collective hundreds of thousands of dollars off his potential currency when he comes to that next stage and phase of his footy life given what he's done during the week.

"There's no doubt that clubs will now reconsider the offers that they've given him and some clubs may even reconsider continuing to pursue him in that free agency."

Geelong has reportedly shown the most serious interest in acquiring the out-of-contract midfielder, who has also been linked to Essendon and Port Adelaide.

Barrett believes Geelong is likely to maintain their pursuit of Crouch once the dust settles, while other suitors could drop out.

"Geelong is the one that has shown the most serious interest for getting him in for 2021 and beyond. I would still think that that's a club that once its finals campaign is completed here would still look at heading down that path," Barrett said.

"The other clubs who were interested, I'd be staggered if they didn't reconsider it to a point. We know that last year St Kilda approached him but in the end the money wasn't right to leave a contract that he had last year, and as such he played the year out at the Crows."

Crouch averaged 22 disposals and five clearances from 12 games this season.
