Melbourne showing the most interest in Hawthorn veteran Isaac Smith: Cleary

Melbourne are showing the most interest in veteran Hawk Isaac Smith of all rival clubs, according to AFL Media's Mitch Cleary.

The 31-year old is out-of-contract and becomes a restricted free agent this off-season - meaning Hawthorn could match any offer he receives.

Cleary reports that the wingman is seeking a two-year extension as the Hawks weigh up their list management strategy.

They gave Shaun Burgoyne a one-year contract extension, while Ben Stratton, Paul Puopolo and Ricky Henderson all announced their retirements.

If Smith isn't able to come to an agreement with Hawthorn, the Demons would appear to be in the box seat to sign him.

“Isaac Smith is after a two-year extension,” Cleary told AFL Media’s The Trade Desk.

“There’s every chance that still could come at the Hawthorn Football Club, but there’s other clubs starting to make enquiries.

“Of those, I think Melbourne is the club asking strongest right now for Isaac Smith.”

Smith, a three-time premiership player, has played 210 games for the Hawks.
