A list of the AFL's most popular players has been unveiled, with the game's superstars, unsurprisingly, dominating the top ten.

The figures come from YouGov Sport's AFL State of Play report, which was forwarded to the league and clubs last week, identifying those most popular among footy fans.

Despite playing just nine games this season, Dustin Martin has claimed top spot for the second year in a row.

Lance Franklin, who kicked his milestone 1000th goal earlier this year in electric scenes, claimed the second spot as he heads into the 19th season of his AFL career.

Premiership Cat and occasional media presenter Patrick Dangerfield rounds out the top three in the wake of Geelong's 2022 premiership win, with recently retired skipper Joel Selwood narrowly missing the top ten to sit in 15th.

Of the top ten, just two - Franklin and Fremantle's Nat Fyfe, hail from non-Victorian clubs.

Surprisingly, Bulldogs star Bailey Smith failed to reach the top 10 despite leading the AFL for Instagram followers with 365,000.
