After playing the good guy in the first 12 months of his tenure at Ikon Park, David Teague finally let out his frustrations in Carlton's final game of the season earlier this season, with the almighty spray receiving mixed reactions.

The Blues led the Lions at quarter time before a characteristic collapse that saw Teague's side hand over five goals to Carlton's zilch and were soon welcomed into the rooms by an irate coach.

Carlton's finals chances were wiped clear the week prior after a frustrating loss to cellar dwellers Adelaide, with Blues fans hoping their club could end the 2020 season on a high in Kade Simpson's final match in the navy long sleeves.

Teague's frustrations had hit breaking point at the main break in Round 18, with the Blues coach now revealing on SEN that a number of his leaders didn't take well to the half-time spray.

“It was the last game of the year (against Brisbane),” Teague told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“I have spoken to some of the leaders – some of them loved it, some of them felt it didn’t get the best out of them.

“That’s the challenge of a senior coach. I know some of our supporters loved it, but my role is finding what’s going to work best for our playing group, and we’re still learning that.

“There will be periods where the energy of our coaching group will go up and will go down, and it’s to get the best out of the playing group, and we’ll do whatever we can.

“We know that AFL footy is hard, and this year particularly. We were in every game this year, they tried really hard, but it’s probably when efforts not there, it gives you more of a licence to fire up a little bit more.”

The Blues are primed to impact the top-eight in 2021, with a bust exchange period that saw them land Zac Williams, Adam Saad and Lachie Fogarty.
