Swans defender Dane Rampe has been ruled out of Saturday's Sydney Derby after undergoing surgery on a broken finger and is set for an extended period on the sidelines.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Rampe has been battling the issue prior to the Giants' Round 3 clash against the Demons following an incident at training.

Having gone under the knife on Monday, the Swans' co-captain is now likely to miss the next month of action.

The veteran's absence is sure to cause headaches ahead of this weekend's clash against their arch-rivals, with John Longmire hoping to extend his side's undefeated start to the season.

The Giants snatched their first win of the season on Saturday night, defeating the Magpies by five goals.

Greater Western Sydney forward Toby Greene was in fine form against Collingwood, booting five goals at the MCG.

With Rampe now ruled out of this weekend's match, Longmire will be looking to his reinforcements to stop Greene from another impressive outing in the Battle of the Bridge.

Sydney are set to face the Suns, Cats and Demons in their three games after Round 5.
