Sydney defender Ted Richards will miss the next fortnight, coach John Longmire has confirmed.

Richards has suffered multiple concussions in recent times and will be given time off from football to adequately recover before returning to the field.

The 33-year-old's latest concussion occurred during the Swans' Round 9 clash with Hawthorn at the MCG.

"He had scans last week and they were fine. We just want to give him a few weeks to get right," Longmire said on Monday.

"He won't play this week or next and then we will begin his preparation to play the week after."

Sydney play the Gold Coast Suns this week and then the Giants in Round 12.
