Former Sydney Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh is under an injury cloud for the season opener against Port Adelaide after sustaining a calf injury at training.

The injury will see McVeigh miss 3-4 weeks of action, which means the 31-year-old will be in a race against time to face the Power on March 25 at the SCG.

While McVeigh heads into the treatment room, a host of players will be heading the other way and back out onto the paddock for the first time this year.

Key forward Lance Franklin, ruckman Sam Naismith and defender Dane Rampe will all make their first appearance for the Swans this year when they take on GWS in the JLT Community Series this weekend.
