Two-time Hawthorn premiership player Matt Suckling has quit the club to join the Western Bulldogs.

The 27-year-old has accepted a three year deal with the Bulldogs.

Coach Alastair Clarkson told guests of Suckling's decision at the club best and fairest night on Saturday.

Suckling, a premiership player with the Hawks in 2014 and 2015, is said to have a very strong relationship with Dogs coach Luke Beveridge, who was a Hawthorn assistant coach from 2012-2014.

Clarkson also announced that Ryan Shoenmakers has signed two-year contract extension with the Hawks.
