Second-generation Demon Taj Woewodin has committed his future to the club, signing a new deal to remain a Redleg until the cessation of the 2025 season.

Woewodin earned his start with Melbourne as a father-son selection at the 2021 AFL Draft, and while the youngster would fail to feature at the senior level throughout the 2022 season, he followed in the footsteps of his decorated father, Shane, debuting for the Simon Goodwin's side in Round 17 against St Kilda.

The son of the 2000 Brownlow medallist has featured at AFL level on a further three occasions, slotting a pair of goals throughout his rookie year.

While Woewodin has not been selected for Melbourne's Round 23 fixture against Hawthorn on Sunday afternoon, Demons' list manager TIm Lamb spoke glowingly of the 20-year-old.

“It's great that Taj has extended his time with us,” List Manager Tim Lamb told Melbourne Media.

“He is developing at a really promising rate and to have already made his senior debut is a great achievement.

“Taj has quickly developed elite habits around his training and preparation, and it is this attitude that will see him become a really good player for us.

“We see Taj as a big part of our future and I'm sure our members and supporters are excited to see the Woewodin name continue with our club.”

Woewodin will instead feature in the VFL, turning out for Casey who will play host to Brisbane's reserves in a top-six clash this Sunday.
