The heartbreaking news had many in the AFL and wider community post their support and care toward Docherty, who is now set to undergo chemotherapy.
All the best, Sam ๐
His former club, his fellow co-captain and North Melbourne's Ben Cunnington were just some of those close to Sam that posted their wishes to the Blues defender.

Josh Kelly inks eight-year extension
Josh Kelly was finally able to end any speculation surrounding his future, triggering the eight-year extension in his contract to remain at the Giants.
While some fans from Victorian clubs - namely North Melbourne - were disappointed in the news, Greater Western Sydney were by far the happiest account on Twitter.

as a nod to Josh Kelly I would also like to announce that I will be staying in Sydney for an indefinite period of time. ๐

Josh Kelly staying after North fans working themselves into a frenzy for months is so good. Smart move as well, staying at a club much closer to a premiership.

Carter report released for future of Tasmanian football
The highly-anticipated Carter Report on Tasmania's future in the AFL was released, leaving mixed feelings among locals of the Apple Isle.
With the chief suggestion that a current AFL club is better of relocating, many were quick to question the report.
It seems Tasmanians will be happier to wait in order to gain the 19th license in the league.
Colin Carter โ for @afl team in Tasmania. Keep pushing forward it will happen. Not a relocation but a new Tasmanian team.
— Matthew Richardson (@mattricho0) August 13, 2021
A summary of the Carter report might be best described like this:
Tassie deserves a team - letโs give them a team.
But probably not a new team, a relocated team.
But we wonโt be relocating any teams.
Got it?
Feels like a political exercise to me.
Just give Tassie a team.

It seems #Tasmania has three options now if it wants its own @afl team.
1. Wait 8-10 years for a standalone team.
2. Talk a Melbourne club into moving South. Probably halves that timeline.
3. Don't have an AFL team. Ever.
I'd go with number 1. Secure a long term plan.#AFL

You all want clear information and I shouldnโt say this: Fuck off and stop with the conversation around @NMFCOfficial moving. Debt eliminated / 45k members / list going places. Suggest thereโs Melb teams with $15 mill debt that are at the front of that relocation talk. https://t.co/BNzVR7PAiH

Jacob Townsend's brave moment after win
Following the Suns' win over Carlton last weekend, Gold Coast forward Jacob Townsend fronted the media after his maiden match with the Queensland club.
Townsend stood brave to chat with Fox Footy's Kath Loughnan after previously turning down media interviews due to his stutter and speech impediment and was exceptional in the interview.
Awesome work Jacob.
Mad respect indeed @FOXFOOTY https://t.co/cYxdBU8QlR
