Silvagni set to depart Carlton

Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni is "more than likely" in his final season at the Blues, with the former player set to depart from his position at season's end.

Silvagni has been in the firing line at times this season, and many believe he should shoulder as much of the blame, if not more, for the Blues' poor performances in recent years, which ultimately saw Brendon Bolton sacked last Monday.

However, even though there have been calls for Silvagni to suffer the same fate as Bolton, foxfooty.com.au reporter Tom Morris believes Silvagni will walk at the end of the season on his own terms.

“It’s a developing situation I expect will play out over the next three months,” Morris said on Fox Footy's On The Couch.

“My understanding is, he’ll more than likely leave the Blues at the end of the year of his own accord. That’s what people are telling me at the moment is going to take place at Carlton.”

Following reports of Silvagni meeting up with Fremantle coach Ross Lyon, it was suggested Silvagni was asking Lyon about the vacant Carlton head coaching role, although Morris floated the idea that it may have gone the other way.

“Is it possible that Ross Lyon was trying to lure Stephen Silvagni to (Fremantle)?” Morris said.

“Knowing that he’s got a very good footy manager at the moment in Peter Bell, who by all accounts is a gun and will be CEO in the short to medium term at the Dockers? And that he wants Stephen Silvagni at the Dockers?”
