Greater Western Sydney's Caleb Marchbank will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Marchbank dislocated his shoulder while playing in the NEAFL on the weekend, which will require the 19-year-old to undergo a shoulder reconstruction.

"This is disappointing news for a young player like Caleb but with his long-term welfare in mind, this is the best course of action to take," Giants' head of athletic performance, David Joyce, said.

"It's been a difficult season for Caleb but we're confident he'll make a full recovery in a matter of months."

Marchbank has been the speculation of several trade rumours, with Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood and St Kilda all rumoured to be interested in the young defender.
