The Magpies are closing in on a three-year deal for highly rated youngster Matthew Scharenberg.

The Herald Sun has reported that Collingwood will finalise the deal with the No. 6 draft pick next week.

He was being chased by Adelaide, as the Crows looked to bring South Australian friends James Aish and Matt Scharenberg back to their home state to cover the loss of Patrick Dangerfield should he join Geelong as expected.

Scharenberg, a 191cm defender, is expected to be a regular in the Collingwood side next season after some impressive VFL form this year.
