Sydney is reportedly keeping tabs on former Gold Coast and Fremantle midfielder Harley Bennell, as the 26-year-old tries to get back onto an AFL list.

Bennell was delisted from the Dockers midway through the season, and has since undergone more surgery on his troublesome calf.

However, doctors believe they have rectified Bennell's long-term injury, which could increase his chances of an AFL return.

According to AFL.com.au, Sydney has recently reached out to Bennell, and are looking over his medical history.

Bennell has played 83 matches across his AFL career, although just two of those have come in the past four seasons.

  1. As a Suns member I watched the talent that was Harley Bennell and how despite the occasional stunning game it was wasted year after year.
When the Suns finally lost patience with Harley and put him up for a trade, I understood that he was going home to WA where he would be closer to family and further away from the distractions that plagued him at the Suns.
Since going home to WA he has had an awful run with injuries but the rumour that the Swans are interested in him is a shock. Maybe the Swans Bloods culture would work with Harley but if there were distractions on the Gold Coast they are multiplied several times in Sydney.
