Collingwood is set to hand ruckman Brodie Grundy a long-term contract extension in a bid to lock him down before he's eligible for free agency at the end of 2020.

According to the Herald Sun, The Pies are considering offering Grundy a seven-year deal worth $7m, which will make the 24-year-old one of the highest paid players in the league.

The decision to extend Grundy's contract comes just days after Adelaide legend Mark Bickley urged his former club to open up their cheque book for the All-Australian ruckman.

Grundy would be a perfect fit for the Crows, as Sam Jacobs enters the twilight of his career.

In 2018, Grundy played all 26 matches for the Pies and averaged 20.2 disposals, 39.9 hitouts and 5.3 clearances, all career highs.
