Star West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern is a free agent at season's end, and Herald Sun journalist Sam Landsberger believes he could be on his way out. The 26-year-old has become one of the premier intercept defenders in the competition, leading the way with 45 intercept marks this season, five more than any other player. "Right now, I think McGovern will play for Fremantle next year. I think they are that well advanced with him, that would be my gut call right now," Landsberger told The SuperFooty Podcast. "That is on." When asked about a monetary value, Landsberger tried not to give too much away, but did confirm it would be "seven figures". "His manager [Colin Young] met with Steve Rosich about 10 days ago, they are massively into him," Jon Ralph added. "He wants the five years, I think what the managers out there feel like is West Coast promises a great deal, we'll give you four years and then we'll see, and they never give you all that money in the fifth year. "So if he can get five years at $1.3, compared to four years at $900k, that's a heck of a lot of money guaranteed to pass up, so there's clearly something going on. "West Coast have so many players coming out of contract next year as well, the squeeze is on financially, so surely one or two will get pushed out." The Dockers have been long into McGovern, and were also in the race for his brother Mitch, before he re-signed with the Crows late last season.
